JAZZ CONTEMPORARY

Jazz quartet composed by Matteo Zecchi on tenor saxophone, Marco Morandi on piano, Bernardo Sacconi on double bass and Giovanni Gargini on drums. Smogz proposes a repertoire made up of original pieces composed by the members of the group.
In 2019 the group won the "Barga jazz Contest" for emerging bands and participated in the final of the "Marco Tamburini" Award. In September of the same year they perform at the Firenze Jazz Festival in the festival "Settembre In Piazza della Passera", at the France Odeon Film Festival and at the Cultural Circle "Behind the Scenes". The numerous concerts include those at the Jazz Club in Florence and participation in the "Jam Bang" review at the Tasso Hostel.
In December 2019 they recorded their debut album "A Estrada"whose publication is expected in June 2020 for Workin’ Label and the I.R.D. distribution. 











Marco Morandi approaches jazz at a very young age. He attends the Musical Activities Center directed by Alessandro DI Puccio, where he is followed by Stefano Onorati and Massimiliano Calderai. Study with Leonardo Pieri and take part in the Siena Jazz summer seminars. He still attends the F. Venezze conservatory in Rovigo. As part of the "Florence Fun and Music Festival" he won the first prize for "Best Male Soloist". Participate in the finals of the Marco Tamburini 2019 Prize with the SMoGZ quartet, and with the same group wins the Barga jazz contest 2019 for emerging bands. In the concert field he performed with some protagonists of the Florentine jazz scene including Alessandro Di Puccio, Dario Cecchini, Guido Zorn, Piero Borri and others.

Matteo Zecchi He began playing the saxophone studying classical and contemporary repertoire followed by the masters Iacopo Sammartano and Roberto Farti. He approaches jazz language at the age of 16 followed by prof. Claudio Giovagnoli. In 2016 he began his experience at Siena Jazz University followed by the masters Maurizio Giammarco and Stefano Franceschini, where he graduated with honors. He has the opportunity to perform abroad on various occasions: Conservatories Liceu of Barcelona, as representative of the Siena Jazz University, "Festival International de Musique Symphonique d'El Jem" (Tunisia), "Ferrari World", Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates ). From 2018 he began to collaborate with Silvia Bolognesi, an established double bass player in the international jazz scene.

Giovanni Gargini He began playing drums at a very young age, studying with Piero Borri, Valter Paoli, Stefano Paolini, Marco Volpe, Giuseppe Urso, Michael Lauren, John Riley and Francisco Mela. He studied piano and harmony with Valerio Silvestro and Stefano Onorati and singing with Loredana Lubrano and Francesca Pirami. He studied at the Lizard Music Academy and at the Van Amsterdam Conservatory. In the jazz field he played with Nicola Vernuccio, Ferdinando Romano, Elisa Mini, Federica Gennai, Marco Galiero, Valerio Silvestro, Loredana Lubrano, Marco Fiorenzano, Mauro Porro, Mario Evangelista, Jeremy Levine, Harry Forlenza-Bailey, Jacob Kelberman, Dario Chatelle, Jochem Braat, Mateusz Puławski, Andrius Dereviancenko.

Bernardo Sacconi Musician born in 1989, very active as a concert performer both in Italy and abroad. Graduated in double bass and electric bass at the "Koninklijk Conservatorium" in The Hague (Netherlands) and in composition and arrangement at the "Luigi Cherubini" Conservatory in Florence. Winner of numerous music competitions both as sideman and co-leader, he has collaborated with some of the most influential musicians internationally: Fabrizio Bosso, Nico Gori, Han Bennink, Eric Ineke, Alessio Menconi, Martijn van Iterson, Mike Peterson, Deborah Carter, Denise Jannah, Scacco, Vince Mendoza, Nikolas Anadolis, Dimos Dimitriadis.
